While visiting the Botanical Gardens of Oaxaca, I was struck by the verdant green silhouettes of the plants against the bright Mexican sky. The textured circular pattern of the inset panels in the centre of the vase are inspired by the cobblestone path through the gardens, and the white borders around the images represent the fine white sand of the earth in the garden beds. The glossy green Oribe glaze, the underglaze colour wash and the black photo transfer silhouettes evoke the shimmering heat and blindingly bright contrast between plant and sky.
